Project 1875 started with a conversation I had with my Dad on the telephone. It was April 12th, this day changed our family. On April 12th my Mom passed away unexpectedly from complications of giving birth to my little brother. My Dad was expressing his sorrow for not having my Mom on earth to feel her love in a very tangible way.
My Dad is a retired college professor of Finance. I remember him using his calculator since the day I was born. During this conversation, he entered my birth date into the calculator and the date my mom passed away. One thousand eight hundred and seventy five was the number that came up on the calculator. Just 1875 days, that made me just 5 years old.
What he did next was powerful for me. It changed me forever!
My oldest daughter, Kennedy was only four at the time, my Dad entered my precious Kennedy’s birthday into his calculator and added 1875 days. The date that came up was November 7th of that year.
When he said that date...My heart dropped. It was too close!
“Had I taught her enough?” “Had I told her I loved her enough?” Did she KNOW in her little heart that I loved her?” Those where the questions that raced through my heart.
I made a promise right then and there. I was going to be more present. I was going to be more expressive of my love and appreciation. I was going to listen more. I was going to create deeper relationships.
I have always known life is fragile but I had a new realization about making each moment count. I made a goal to write a thank you note each day. I needed those that I loved to know how great they made my life. Sharing that love and appreciation has made me see the world differently. I want others to feel that same way.
